Sustainable manufacturing education supports the growth and innovation of existing businesses by helping to identify new markets, adapt to new “green” markets and encourage sustainable business practices.

Manufacturing companies, especially in the wood products industry, are among the hardest hit by changes in the economy and trade impacts. Finding new markets helps manufacturers compete globally and use their greatest strength to compete with imported products. The environmentally-conscious or “Green” economy continues to grow, despite the recession and decline of manufacturing jobs in our region. This Sustainable Manufacturing Project will help diversify the regional economy by teaching companies how they can take advantage of this growth and market green products. It will also coach companies on how to produce more green products and appeal to the “Green” trend in our community.

In Phase 2, workshop participants are invited to submit proposals to BREDD for Sustainable Manufacturing TA Projects.  Proposals may be from manufacturing businesses with specific TA needs, and/or from experts with specific TA skills to provide to manufacturers.  A total of $20,000 is currently available in TA funds.  It is possible that additional funds may be leveraged, if BREDD receives enough proposals with clear value and strong potential for success. BREDD will contract directly with TA providers, to provide assistance to manufacturers.  Proposals are due by Friday, December 30, 2011.

Application for Technical Assistance Funds for Sustainable Manufacturing–Proposals due by Dec 30, 2011
